Hondu Land

This trip was a few years in the making.  Dreaming, planning, and finally making it a reality was no easy task.  But thanks to my ambitious husband and the deal skills of Alisha it was a dream come true.  All MoleChap trips are pretty epic but leaving the comfort of the US definitely takes it to a new level.  

Ronnie has always said that if they ever built a temple in Honduras he would want to go visit again.  Living there for two years and serving the people there, Honduras has carved out a special place in his heart. Once they announced the building of the Tegucigalpa Honduras Temple in 2009 the planning began.  We gathered up our besties and it was settled.  We would go. 

   We went to Honduras after graduating college in 2001 and saw a lot of members and areas where Ronnie lived.  This trip was promised to be a bit more exotic and a step above the cold showers and sharing of a twin size child's bed with my husband.  And so it was.  The temple was definitely at the top of our must see list but so was the beach, and the hot tub, and the beach and, well, you get the idea.

We started off with a bang traveling from Seattle, meeting the Molens in Houston and flying together to San Pedro Sula.  We stayed there one night before venturing over to the island of Roatan where we had rented a house on the beach to park our bums.

Roatan was pretty well unknown when Ronnie and I were there 12 years ago.  Since then a few Cruise lines have added it to their list of ports.  But still, Roatan remains fairly "un-touristy".  We did a little sight seeing and a whole lot of relaxing.  It was amazing and wonderful and so needed.

We loved the place we stayed so much.  They had a couple who lived on the property who took such good care of us.  Along with the amazing views and private beach-- we were so spoiled.  We definitely took advantage of the house and wanted to stay forever.  We did however get off our adirondacks and put some real clothes on and head into town for a few meals and some sights.

One of the resorts on the island has a dolphin show each day.  You can go watch the show and also take a boat out to the open water encounter where the dolphins are.  Matt's 29th ;) ;) birthday was coming up so we surprised him with a dolphin swim.  He is pretty crazy about dolphins so we knew this would be the perfect gift.

We were able to touch them, give them commands, and even get in the water and swim with them.  They pushed us on our feet and we got to hold onto their dorsal fins and ride around.  It really was an amazing day and the smile on Matt's face was the best part.

Another highlight on the island was the frequent trips to Spa Baan Suerte where we received various massages.  They had a pretty cool beach with some serene views and a perfect little doc for chatting about life and how lucky we were to be where we were.

And on a few occasions we headed into town in search of some fresh lobster... or cheese fries ;) And checked out the local atmosphere.  We even found the same exact restaurant Ronnie and I frequented 12 years ago to get smoothies and study our scuba diving certification books.

Then it was time to hop on the ferry and say goodbye to paradise.

It was off to the mainland to get a little more adventurous...
