La Ceiba

After our relaxing stay in the Bay Islands it was time to head back to the mainland of Honduras and explore the cities.  First stop was the jungle of La Ceiba.  Ronnie served in the town of La Ceiba and had a few nostalgic moments as we passed by certain streets he remembered and houses he knew.  But we eventually headed out of the town and straight into the jungle.  We stayed at an amazing resort called Las Cascadas which means the waterfalls.  The property was gorgeous and the accommodations were like nothing we had ever experienced.  The resort only has 3 rooms.  2 in the main lodge and one just outside the main lodge.  It is run by a cute american couple who stay at a house across the road from the property.  It was a little strange being left in the middle of the jungle, all alone with the monkeys and birds and sounds from another world.  I didn't sleep well because of the sheer volume of all the animal noises.  It was amazing though, nothing we had ever experienced.  We were fed custom meals by the resort chef, Olvin who even brought flour from his own home to make Ronnie fresh flour tortillas.  And we discovered a new favorite, Hibiscus juice which we drank plenty of and tried to find everywhere else we went. They left fresh flours on our linens, helped us find monkeys and waterfalls, and pretty much treated us like royalty since we were their only guests.

Tha Main Lodge- Getting ready to go find some waterfalls

The lower falls were right off the main lodge.  The sounds were incredible and so nice to sit next to and read some trashy magazines;)

We walked up a little further and swam around in the freezing cold water until we saw some little crawdad looking things and I was out.

Ronnie taught Alisha and I some yoga up here.

The next day we hiked up even further to find another set of waterfalls.  About 10min into the hike ronnie got stung by something on his toe.  He pulled off his 5 finger shoes to see what it was and hiding down in one of the toes of his shoes was this... SO GROSS!  Luckily it didn't do anything more than hurt like crazy!  He was tough and finished the hike.  And I'm pretty sure the pain in his toe was easier to deal with than Alisha and I freaking out over every tiny thing after that.

So glad we made it because it was beautiful.

And we were off.  Headed to Copan for some exploring of the ancient Mayan ruins.  From the beach to the jungle to the mountains...
